Risk Theory donated an origami Christmas Tree from Paper for Water to T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center

Risk Theory, a Dallas-based insurance company, donated a Paper for Water Christmas tree to T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center for patients’ and families to enjoy this holiday season.

“We are honored by the kindness of Risk Theory and Paper for Water for sharing their talents and gifts through our beautiful Christmas tree,” said John Mezo, executive director of Faith Presbyterian Hospice. “Comfort in healthcare is experienced through all the senses, and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree brings fond memories and joy to all, especially those with a life-limiting illness.”

Paper for Water is run by two young ladies, Isabelle and Katherine Adams, former Each Moment Matter honorees. Since 2012, the former EMM Honorees have raised over $2 million to fund the drilling of more than 200 water wells around the world.

Paper for Water’s primary function is to raise money to fund water wells world-wide. The organization enlists volunteers of all ages to craft origami ornaments to sell to fund their efforts across 20 countries worldwide.

“The hospice center is a resource for the community made possible by the community,” said Tena Burley, executive director of Forefront Living Foundation. “This kind act is an extension of that community involvement, and it is always amazing to have former honorees connect back with our mission and ministry. Beyond that, the tree and beautiful handmade ornaments are exquisite! To know that this supports water wells in Africa is just the ‘angel on top.’”

The ornaments at the T. Boone Pickens Center were folded by teens from the Heart of Dallas National Charity League requiring over 150 volunteer hours. Isabelle Adams, her mother, Deborah Adams, and two volunteers decorated the tree.

As a token of sympathy and remembrance, the T. Boone Pickens Center will gift one of these intricate ornaments to each family member who’s loved one passes away while receiving care at the Center Dec. 23 – 26. The remainder of the ornaments will be stored for use next year.
