Cristo Rey High School Seniors Bring Thanksgiving Cheer to PVN Residents Post date November 21, 2024 On November 21, the air at Presbyterian Village North (PVN) was filled with the mouthwatering aromas of a Thanksgiving potluck lunch. The Auditorium buzzed with conversation and laughter as More than 50 Independent Living residents gathered to celebrate the season of gratitude. This year, the festive atmosphere was made even brighter by the presence of two young women—Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep seniors Jocelyn and Mayte—who played an important role in making the event a success. Jocelyn, assigned to Forefront Living’s home office, and Mayte, working directly at PVN, are part of an innovative partnership between Forefront Living and Cristo Rey Dallas. The program blends rigorous academics with hands-on work experience, allowing students like Jocelyn and Mayte to spend one day each week in professional settings. This partnership isn’t just about preparing students for the future; it’s about creating meaningful intergenerational interactions that uplift both the young and the young at heart. During the Thanksgiving potluck, Jocelyn and Mayte donned gloves and radiant smiles as they served turkey, ham and desserts to the residents while assisting those who were juggling more than one plate to ensure they sampled all the delicious offerings. They exchanged warm conversations with those they served, creating moments of connection that underscored the true spirit of the holiday. “This was such a great opportunity,” said Mayte. “I’ve gotten better with my people and social skills.” Jocelyn echoed the sentiment. “It was such a fun time to be with the residents and be able to converse with them. They shared stories with me and asked questions about my education. They even wished me luck to pursue my future career!” Both Jocelyn and Mayte’s contributions highlight the power of Forefront Living’s vision: to enrich lives and empower individuals to thrive. Through its collaboration with Cristo Rey Dallas, Forefront Living is creating opportunities for students to engage with professionals, residents and patients in meaningful ways. At PVN, Cristo Rey students work across departments, from Community Life to Human Resources, gaining exposure to the many facets of senior living. Their presence brings a fresh perspective, youthful energy and an eagerness to learn—all of which resonate deeply with PVN residents and teammates. “The partnership with Cristo Rey Dallas is a perfect reflection of our commitment to community and innovation,” said Dustin Allen, PVN Executive Director. “The students bring so much positivity and enthusiasm to our campuses, and in return, they gain invaluable insights and experiences that prepare them for their future. It’s truly a win-win.” As the Thanksgiving potluck wrapped up, Jocelyn and Mayte helped clear tables and said heartfelt goodbyes to the residents they had served. For this group of thankful residents, the day wasn’t just about turkey and pumpkin pie; it was about the joy of connecting with the next generation. And for Jocelyn and Mayte, it was a reminder of the impact they can make, even in the simplest acts of service.
