Harmony and Hope: Jay Allen Brings Music and Meaning to PVN

Presbyterian Village North (PVN) was filled with music, memories and emotion as country singer-songwriter and past contestant of The Voice, Jay Allen, along with his talented guitarist, Hunter Bishop, took the stage for a heartfelt performance at the Harmony & Hope concert. Known for his powerful advocacy and moving tribute song “Blank Stares,” Allen captivated the audience with his inspiring story and soulful melodies, honoring those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

The concert, held on February 27, in PVN’s McGowan Auditorium, welcomed residents, caregivers and loved ones for an afternoon of reflection, connection and great music. Allen, who has raised more than $160 million for Alzheimer’s research, shared deeply personal stories about his late mother, Sherry Lynn, who passed away from the disease in 2019 at just 54 years old.

Throughout the performance, Allen’s music resonated with attendees, many of whom have been touched by Alzheimer’s in their own families, through his raw and honest lyrics.

Maurisha Bowie, Community Life Manager at PVN shared, “The concert was incredible! Jay’s powerful performance was moving on its own, but when he shared heartfelt moments of his moms journey with dementia, it hit even deeper. The music, the emotion and the connection – everything was just perfect. I laughed, I cried and I left with a full heart. It was amazing!”

The event, sponsored by AWARE and HUGS, was more than just a concert – it was a chance for the PVN, The Outlook at Windhaven and the local community to come together, support one another and find comfort in the power of music. Jay has partnered with Leeza Gibbons to raise awareness through Leeza’s Care Connection and HUGS (Helping U Grow Strong), a network of caring individuals who have walked the path of family caregiving and are available to share their wisdom with others new to the journey. Leeza felt mission-connected to Jay the moment she heard “Blank Stares.” She reached out to him looking for ways to collaborate on their shared path to help others and it was an instant connection.

From the stirring performance of “Blank Stares” to the uplifting moments of laughter and shared memories, the Harmony & Hope concert left a lasting impact on everyone in attendance. As the final notes faded, Allen’s message remained clear: through love, music and advocacy, we can continue the fight against Alzheimer’s and keep cherished memories alive.

Prior to the concert, Leeza and Jay had the opportunity to sit down and share their story on Good Morning Texas, a morning show on WFAA, Channel 8. In addition, Jay and Hunter performed “Blank Stares,” live. Watch the segment below.
