Teammate Spotlight – Morgan Gillis Post date April 19, 2022 What is your job title? I currently serve as a Faith Presbyterian Hospice Community Liaison and am responsible for covering much of central Dallas. How long have you worked at Faith Presbyterian Hospice (FPH/Faith)? I recently celebrated two years at Faith in March. Why did you choose to work at Faith? I worked for a well-respected non-profit hospice in Mississippi that also managed a wonderful inpatient hospice unit. When I moved to Dallas, I wanted to join an organization that had a similar esteemed community reputation, but also met my personal expectations for compassionate patient care. I believe I found just that at Faith. What do you like best about working here? I believe the dying process is just as important as bringing new life into the world. For that reason, I really enjoy listening to the hearts of patients and their families during this very delicate time in their lives. The role I play in this process is very fulfilling to me because I get to help them carry out their wishes, whether it be through providing comfort or companionship. Please share a special “Moment that Mattered” to you. During the height of the pandemic, I received a referral for a gentleman who had a grim prognosis. His three sons and their families lived in California. Like most families, they had many questions and it was difficult being unable to meet in person. In the beginning, I remember questioning the ability to build trust over such a long distance. However, during the course of his care, I spoke to these families daily for nearly two months. I learned so much about this extraordinary gentleman, not solely as a patient, but as a person. I learned that he taught three-year-old children Sunday School for nearly 40 years, and that he loved music almost as much as he loved cheering on the Dallas Mavericks. This patient and his family became very special to me and when he passed, his family personally thanked me in his obituary. That kind gesture is not something I ever expected, but it continues to mean the world to me. Please share a little about yourself personally. My husband and I moved to Dallas five years ago, and it is beginning to feel like home. Each day after work, I head out on a walk while listening to a podcast regarding government or current events. On the weekends you can find me on a patio enjoying brunch and watching golf. I am a huge fan of Scottie Scheffler! I adore my husband, family and friends very much and look forward to any opportunity to spend time with them. I enjoy traveling and recently visited the Round Top Antique Fair. I believe it will be a favorite destination for years and years to come. ← Older Posts Newer Posts →
